Alternatives to Epoxy Garage Paint
To be honest, when it comes to garage floors and other types exposed to elements and knocks, Epoxy really does take some beating. There are some oil based alternatives to Epoxy, but perhaps its best rival is to opt for rubber flooring. Rubber flooring however, is not a cheaper alternative but is nonetheless a good one giving a unique finish quite different from floor paints. The again, maybe we're being a little too hasty here. Yes, we are, because there's a less established name in concrete floor paint that should definitely get a mention here, so you might want to keep reading...
The Alternative to Epoxy - Citadel Polyaspartic Polyurea Floor Coating Systems
Apparently, as good as Epoxy is with regards to durability, finish, and longevity, those who want the same qualities, or dare we say better, but with more options in the finish, are opting for something known as Polyaspartic Polyurea floor coatings. These floor coating options have so much potential for decorative concrete that it is said the finishes are limited only by imagination. Preparing Concrete Floors for Painting
Obviously the preparation instructions will be on the tin, but the amount of people who ignore them and just rush ahead is quite staggering. Poor preparation not only means a poor finish but probably the botched job won't even stick and that's just a total waste of good time, effort, and money. The 6 basic procedures (short form) for preparing your concrete are as follows:
1. Check your surface for water or moisture issues. 2. Clean the concrete surface completely and methodically. 3. Use a purpose cleanser to clean any residual grease or oil. 4. Check the clean surface for irregularities and patch as necessary. 5. Roughen your clean surface with a coarse wire-brush or even an electric hand-sander using 80 grit sandpaper. 6. Be sure to use a purpose primer before painting.
