The Floor Lamp looks great, & creates Ambiance!

It's true folks, often considered as an old fashioned piece of home décor from the pre 80's era, the floor lamp is back in business and back into our homes. It's little wonder too as there are some wonderful styles and designs to choose from, that it's impossible to not find something to complement you interiors. But personally, I will stay away from the grotesque palm tree floor lamp that for some reason the manufactures think will make a comeback.

Many of the new designs have decorative plates with foot switches for easy operation. A lot of them are adjustable too which means you can really control you lighting. My sister has a beautiful pearl white floor lamp which blends in beautifully with her minimalistic interior design. And a good friend of mine has a very slim polished chrome halogen floor lamp with a brushed steel base. This sits tastefully and unobtrusively in her home study. Plenty of folks these days now use a modern floor lamp to light up the family rooms and if you browse through the options available, it’s not easy to see why.

So, with the revival of the floor lamp, I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when I opened the gifts that were given to me at my wedding. Though getting one floor lamp might be normal, I was shocked to see that four different relatives decided this would be the perfect gift for my new husband and me. Auntie Maggie gave us a floor lamp with table, (I don’t know what we’re going to do with that!), uncle Bob thought an antique floor lamp would be appropriate (in a modern home!), cousin Julie gave us a reading floor lamp, which is a real nice piece, but the favorite of all was from mum and dad and that was a Torchiere floor lamp shaded with style and elegance. It also gives off a very soft and diffused lighting that is just simply a joy to sit under, plus it came with 3 tasteful Torchiere floor lamp shades

At the time I thought it was quite hysterical to get four gifts of light, but I have learned that perhaps these were some of my favorite gifts after all, well apart from the antique floor lamp and the job with a table! I have two of them in my home, and I have two of them put away for when we buy a larger house and have more room to use them, or should I say hide them! A floor lamp might not be high on your wedding gift wish list, but if you get them, you will end up grateful that someone decided to get you one. However, with so many designs out there, you might want to drop a couple of subtle hints as to what really you don’t like in a floor lamp.

What's great about this type of alternative lighting is that there is something soothing about the light that comes from a floor lamp. The overhead lights in your rooms may work well, and can be turned on with the flick of a switch, but the light they give is either inadequate or extremely harsh and be hard to get just right even with a dimmer switch. If you use a floor lamp, you get a softer and smoother lighting scheme, and you may find it lights your room in a whole new way. The light from a floor lamp is just different, and perhaps that is because it is not glaring down on your from the ceiling above.

Why not enhance your bedtime experience with a carefully chosen floor lamp with adjustable dimmer. A dimmer will enable you to adjust the gentle glow and control the ambiance in that room of sleep, rest, and relaxation, and recreation! Choosing the right lighting for you late night read will undoubtedly make bedtime a much more enjoyable experience. Good night!
